GBO-Get Black Outside Day-4 Groups, 4 states, 1 Weekend! June 26-27, 2021
Get Black Outside (GBO) is a global platform designed to acknowledge, support, and unite black-led grassroots organizations and facilitators that bring outdoor programming to black audiences.
GBO recognizes that collaboration is essential to growth. By creating a space for black outdoor organizations and facilitators to collaborate and share resources, GBO will advocate for nature equity, with a goal that people of color especially all African-Americans have the opportunity to engage in nature, via an authentic and culturally tailored experienc
GBO is an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming group of individuals and organizations. Whether, Indigenous, descendants of enslaved Africans, LatinX, Hispanic, or a Person of Color that identifies as an Immigrant, Refugee, or somewhere in between...You Belong Here!
Well, that depends. We explained that GBO's primary audience is grassroots organizations that have come together to support one another. Our goal is to produce a collaborative impact in the US and across the globe.
Perhaps your organization is seeking to network with groups that you have not traditionally worked with. Or maybe you have a national presence but you're looking to connect with people at the community level. If you value relationship building and shared goals...You Belong Here!
FRESHWATER SNORKELING though? Yes! We’ve partnered with the United States Forest Service to bring a fresh perspective to spending time in nature. For years they have fostered this program to bring awareness to our nation’s forests, wildlife, and fisheries! With the help of NABS (National Association of Black Scuba Divers). We’re convening 4 groups across 4 states over 1 weekend for one of the best times ever in 2021! You’ll have a chance to learn a bit about science, freshwater resources, and the rich history and culture of the region. The ultimate goals are to Experience something new, meet New Friends, have Fun, and Relax!
So, what will this weekend be like…:
The GBO Annual Snorkeling, Citizen Science & Camping event will be held in partnership with the US Forest Service Freshwater Snorkeling Education Program and the National Association of Black Scuba Divers (NABS). This GBO experience will engage youth, adults, and families across several states to share in a unique exposure experience that:
Each site offers participants plenty of recreational opportunities that are unique to their location. Not only will you gain the benefits provided by traditional camping including forest-bathing (wait, what?)…Forest-bathing enhances mindfulness and relaxation. Simply put, you’ll reduce any stress that you were carrying just by being outside. Even kids are transformed in this environment as everyone gets a chance to take a break to play. You will increase your fitness through optional adventures such as grounding, hiking, kayaking, yoga, and more! Having the ability to unplug and unwind from our busy schedules along with experiencing “black joy,” GBO is a no-brainer.
Statement of Nondiscrimination-Get Black Outside does not and shall not discriminate based on race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations
